PLANET Announces H-2B Fly-In

Impromptu fly-in announced for March 15 to put H-2B issues in front of lawmakers.

Fla

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has announced that a Fly-In to lobby for H-2B reform among U.S. lawmakers has been set for March 15. Industry professionals are urged to visit Washington, D.C. on that day to visit with their Members of Congress to discuss the impact of H-2B issue and related immigration reform efforts on the green industry and small business as a whole.

Additional details have yet to be announced.

This will be the second Fly-In hosted by PLANET. Last year, dozens of green industry professionals, as well as members of other seasonal industries, such as restaurants, tourism, canning, and fisheries, met in Washington on March 2 to lobby for reforms to the H-2B program, which had been causing much frustration among the small business community. The event was one of several steps that helped successfully push reform measures through Congress last May. This year's goal is to extend the same changes (set to expire at the end of September) through 2009.

The immediacy of these fly-ins is meant to help maintain a sense of urgency among industry business owners and the Members of Congress with whom they meet. Lawn & Landscape will continue to report on this event as updates become available.
