The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) won an Award of Excellence in the 2008 Associations Advance America Awards. The awards are conducted by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) & The Center for Association Leadership. PLANET received the award for its Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries project held each July. The award was given for the program, which “truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign” and recognizes PLANET’s “outstanding contributions to society.”
Each year, ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership recognize three levels of winners. These are the Summit Award, Award of Excellence, and Honor Roll. PLANET is among the winners for the second level of recognition, the Award of Excellence, for the second consecutive year. The honor automatically puts PLANET’s entry in the running for the 2008 Associations Advance America Summit Award, the highest level of recognition. The Summit Awards will be announced in September 2008.
Hundreds of landscape and lawn care specialists from across the nation bring their crews to Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries each July to spend the day mulching, caring for and cabling trees with lightening protection, pruning, liming, planting, and aerating, as well as irrigation installation and maintenance. This gift is valued at more than $350,000 in products, services, and man hours each year. To date, more than one million dollars has been contributed in products, services, and man hours.
“This is the most significant project that PLANET does each year,” says PLANET President Jason Cupp, CLP. “The natural beauty and quiet grace of Arlington National Cemetery make it a place that we feel compelled to protect and take care of. This extremely worthwhile, meaningful gift to the American people demonstrates our honor and remembrance of America’s veterans and leaders.”
