Plant Material Donations Sought for Arlington Cemetery Project

Organizers of the annual green industry effort to enhance the grounds at two historic cemeteries invite industry members to donate materials or volunteer their time.

Over the last decade members of the green industry have contributed more than $1 million in time and materials to beautify America’s heroes’ final resting places as part of the Renewal & Remembrance project at Arlington National Cemetery and Historic Congress Cemetery.

Last year’s contributions were valued at $204,000 and organizers hope this year’s effort will be the biggest and best one yet, Tom Shotzbarger, chair of the Professional Landcare Network’s Renewal & Remembrance committee, said at PLANET's Summer Leadership meeting this month.

However, plant material donations are still needed prior to the event. It takes place on Monday, July 16, in conjunction with PLANET’s Legislative Day on the Hill.

Landscape companies or plant suppliers who want to donate trees, shrubs or perennials on the list below should contact Patricia Burleson as soon as possible. Contact her at pat@estategardenersinc.com, 402/289-0688 (office) or 402/707-6175 (cell). The plants on this list will be installed at Arlington National Cemetery, Burleson notes. Aquisition of plants for Historic Congressional Cemetery is complete.

Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. area companies are best suited for these donations, as organizers request that plants be delivered on July 13 or July 14. Companies interested in volunteering for Renewal & Remembrance should register with PLANET. PLANET membership is not required to participate.
