Ammi
AM-me. Carrot family, Apiaceae.
The lacy, rounded flower heads and deeply cut, fernlike leaves of the 10 or so species of annuals and biennials in this genus are reminiscent of their close relative Queen-Anne's-Lace (Daucus carota). Two species grown as annuals make fine cut flowers and additions to beds and borders.
How To Grow
Plant in full sun or partial shade in average to rich, well-drained soil that is evenly moist. Sow seeds outdoors in early spring before the last spring frost date or in the fall. Indoors, sow six to eight weeks before the last frost date and transplant after the last frost. Support plants with pea stakes when they are about 4 inches tall.
