Demonstrating both the innovation that drives the entrepreneurial spirit and the commitment to ethical business practices, Michael Ferraro, co-founder and president of PlantFind.com, has received Northwood University’s “Arthur E. Turner Award for Entrepreneurial Innovation” for 2003.
Ferraro was singled out for this award from a pool of more than 200 nominations.
“In our view, Mr. Ferraro has basically changed the way in which the distribution channel for plants and associated hard goods works by developing a Web-based application for wholesalers to use as a marketplace and exchange,” said Dr. David Luhrsen, director of Development for south Florida's Northwood University. “He embodies the very heart of the Northwood University ‘idea.’”
According to the eligibility requirements, criteria for consideration for this award include the "accomplishment of a specific task in the last two years that helps him/her stand out in the community."
“Our understanding is that what Mr. Ferraro and PlantFind have accomplished in the nursery business has not been done anywhere or anytime previously,” Luhrsen noted.
“Being recognized by the broad cross section of the business community that is represented by this award is indeed humbling,” Ferraro commented. “Just as important for us, though, has been the enthusiastic acceptance by the horticulture industry for an innovative Web-based business such as ours.”
