Plants at Work Seeks Support to Avoid Closure

Despite increasing success, Plants at Work faces the threat of closing its doors if the organization does not get enough renewals and pledges from the green industry.

Without widespread industry support, Plants at Work will be closing its doors next March, halting the organization’s efforts to educate industry professionals and the public about the benefits of interior plants.

Sponsored by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) and supported by more than 250 interiorscaping firms, the interior industry growth initiative’s original budget will run out in March – unless the group receives an outpouring of pledge renewals and new pledges from industry professionals and associations.

Plants at Work has recently initiated two significant advocacy campaigns, which will end if the program is not supported by financing. The industry organization has been petitioning the insurance industry to offer discounts to commercial facilities with adequate installations or interior plants. Plants at Work has also made headway toward securing credit points within the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program.

“Should we fail, everyone loses,” asserted Vicky Cate, president, California Interior Plantscape Association (CIPA). “Suppliers, growers and all allied green industry professionals will no longer be represented by this unprecedented, industry-wide marketing effort right when the economy demands this very thing.”

Plants at Work is encouraging all who recognize the importance of this initiative to renew their pledges and spread the word to others.

To renew or pledge support, visit the Plants at Work Web site and click on the “Pledge Form” link on the home page. Supporters can also call 800/395-2522.
