Plant Publicity Holland announced recently that they will be sponsoring one of The Netherland’s leading landscape architects as a speaker at the 2006 Mid Am Conference. Specializing in the development of planting and maintenance schemes for residential, commercial and public spaces, Leen Goedegebuure and his design firm are well known in Holland for the elaborate public display gardens which house the firm’s office.

Leen’s presentation on “Innovative Uses of Perennials in the Landscape” will draw on his many years of experience in working for both private and public clients. The presentation will focus on how effective perennial combinations can enhance any landscape setting.

P>Rita Weerdenburg of Plant Publicity Holland notes that while bulbs are popular imports from Holland, Dutch perennials also have a good reputation in foreign landscapes. “Federal import and export regulations do not allow here do not allow the importation of soil from off-continent sources, so plant material coming into North America from any country first needs to be root washed,” Weerdenburg explains. “This can limit the nursery stock that we’re able to import, but there are several varieties of perennials that stand up well to root washing and will thrive when they arrive here.”

A number of new varieties, such as the Red Prince weigela, pictured at right, have come to the marketplace in recent years. Learn more about them at www.hollandnurserynews.com. Plant Publicity Holland will also have a booth at the Mid-Am trade show in January.
