Private equity firms are eyeing ServiceMaster Co., the parent company of TruGreen ChemLawn, TruGreen LawnCare and Terminix, according to a report from Wednesday's Wall Street Journal.
The Journal also indicated speculation that a management-led takeover is possible. ServiceMaster recently reported a 17 percent decline in third-quarter profit despite a 5 percent increase in revenue. The firm, currently based in Downers Grove, Ill., recently said it would relocate it headquarters to Memphis, Tenn.
This speculation comes a month after private investment firm MSD Capital acquired majority ownership in the ValleyCrest Cos., a $730 million Calabasas, Calif.-based landscape firm. MSD Capital is owned by Michael S. Dell, founder and chairman of Dell Inc.
The TruGreen Cos., with close to $1.5 billion in revenue, and ValleyCrest rank No. 1 and No. 2 on Lawn & Landscape's Top 100 list.
