BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – With an emphasis on developing standardized testing of sediment retention device effectiveness, Profile Products recently presented Stormwater Lab research results at the StormCon Conference, the nation’s largest stormwater conference, held July 18 to 21 in Orlando, Fla. To download a copy of this research, please go to Profile’s Web site where the research, “Quantitative Comparison of Sediment Retention Devices Under Standardized Test Conditions,” is presented under “Technical Notes.”

The presentation, conducted by Marc Theisen, Profile’s director of business development, and Kevin Spittle, Profile’s vice president of research and sevelopment, reviewed ongoing efforts to gather quantifiable comparative data on various sediment retention and storm water treatment devices on the market. Spittle and Theisen also discussed how this data could be used to determine best management practices for agencies and organizations to meet NPDES Phase II sediment reduction goals.

Theisen and Spittle’s research also concluded that fiber filtration tubes, which are engineered composites of wood fibers, man-made fibers and performance-enhancing polymers encased in heavy-duty knitted tubes, provided greater sediment capture and reduced turbidity levels than other sediment retention technologies evaluated. These technologies included silt fences, silt dikes, straw wattles and fiber rolls.

“With many varying technologies now available to address NPDES regulations, we hope this research will lead to standards that assist agencies, contractors and engineers in selecting the best methods to keep their soil in place,” said Theisen.

Based in Buffalo Grove, Ill., Profile Products manufactures a wide range of erosion control and hydraulic mulch products for the transportation, landfill, golf course, commercial and residential markets.
