Project EverGreen Gears Up Again for “GreenCare for Troops” Program

For the second year, the organization will work to provide free lawn and landscape service to families of those serving in the Middle East.

Project EverGreen is preparing to deliver a giant care package to the families of thousands of American servicemen and women. The national non-profit organization has announced that its major public service effort—“GreenCare For Troops”— is gearing up for its second year of providing free lawn and landscape care to families of armed forces personnel whose major breadwinner is serving in the Middle East.

According to Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen, “Lawn and landscape care is important, but we believe it should be the least of a family’s concerns when a loved one may be in harm’s way. In 2006, we were able to enlist the volunteer services of 670 local lawn and landscape contractors to assist 2,500 of these families. This year we’re opening the program to citizen volunteers to help even more.”

Gardner announced that Project EverGreen is now accepting applications from families who may qualify for help from the GreenCare for Troops program as well as encouraging local lawn and landscape contractors and local people to volunteer for the program. Families, contractors and citizen volunteers can get the information they need by:

  • Accessing www.projectevergreen.com and completing an on-line application.
  • Making a toll-free phone call to 877/758-9135 to have an application mailed.

“There is no cost or obligation to families who apply to participate in GreenCare for Troops,” Gardner said. “Project EverGreen will make every effort to link those who apply with local land and landscape firms who have indicated a desire to help.  However, since this is strictly a volunteer program, we cannot guarantee assistance to everyone who applies.”

Project EverGreen is a national non-profit organization representing service providers, associations, suppliers/distributors, media companies, other organizations and individuals affiliated with the green industry. Project EverGreen’s mission is to raise the awareness of the environmental, economic and lifestyle benefits of landscapes and promote the significance of those who preserve and enhance green spaces at home, work and play.
