"United industry support is helping us maintain and expand our public service efforts focused on the benefits of green space."
This was the comment from Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen as he announced third quarter contributions to the national non-profit organization.
Gardner released a list of those who have provided financial support for the organization's educational activities during the period ending Sept. 30. They include: Andy Hull, the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of America, Grasshopper Lawns, Inc., The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), The International Society of Aboriculture, John Deere Landscapes/LESCO, Nufarm Americas, Trugreen, Paul Stolzfus, and Teresa Yocca.
"This list provides a snapshot of the broad representation of green industry associations, suppliers, end users and individuals who recognize importance of our mission," he said. "Their support has helped us maintain momentum for our efforts to raise the awareness of the environmental, economic and lifestyle benefits of landscapes and promote the significance of those who preserve and enhance green spaces at home, work and play,"
As recent highlights of these efforts Gardner mentioned representative programs which Project EverGreen has initiated or participated in. They include:
- YEA! (Yard Enthusiasts of America)--An online community designed to create a place where yard enthusiasts can share common interests and exchange ideas, tips and information (http://yardenthusiasts.com)
- GreenCare For Troops-- A nationwide outreach program connecting lawn and landscape firms with the families of military personnel deployed in the Middle East. More than 4,300 families and 1,300 volunteers signed up for the program. (www.projectevergreen.com/newsroom/greencare.html)
- Project EverGreen Landscaped Areas Award -- A national award, made in conjunction with America in Bloom, to encourage communities to beautify their green space. (www.americainbloom.org/Default.aspx?CategoryId=1)
- Because Green Matters Scholarships-- A national competition to encourage students of horticulture, plant sciences, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, water management and related fields to enter the green industry. (www.projectevergreen.com/pdf/2007ScholarshipApp.pdf)
"These are just some of the programs which contributions to Project EverGreen help support," Gardner said, adding that "I urge anyone who has an interest in helping focus on the positive benefits healthy landscapes and other green spaces provide to contact me at (877) 758-4835, e-mail dengardner@projectevergreen.com or visit our Web site at www.projectevergreen.com."
