NEW PRAGUE, MINN. – Project EverGreen and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation have joined forces to create a 14-song Christmas CD of traditional favorites to raise money for two of the organizations’ major programs: GreenCare for Troops and Trees for Troops.
“A Big EverGreen Christmas” is by Little Chicago, a band managed by Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen. Gardner also plays percussion and sings in the band. The 12-piece band, based in New Prague, Minnesota, headquarters of Project EverGreen, produced the album as a volunteer project.
Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to support GreenCare for Troops (the free lawn/landscape care service for military families where the major breadwinner is serving overseas) and Trees for Troops (a program of the National Christmas Tree Association’s non-profit group – the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation). This year, Trees for Troops will provide more than 15,000 free Christmas Trees to military families.
“Our band was looking for an opportunity to step up and help Project EverGreen, and we always wanted to do a Christmas CD,” says Gardner. “We have a former military man in the band, our guitar player, and he embraced this idea with great enthusiasm and it all rubbed off on the rest of us.”
Pam Helmsing, executive director of the National Christmas Tree Association and its foundation says the project is intended to bring holiday joy for consumers, and make them aware of these two important volunteer projects. “Without volunteers, we couldn’t do Trees for Troops and Project EverGreen couldn’t manage GreenCare for Troops."
