Rain Bird recently unveiled its contribution to the 116th Tournament of Roses Parade. This year’s float is a foam-covered mesh-and-wire structure featuring a family of panda bears. The float, named Playful Pandemonium, is meant to highlight the company’s dedication to the intelligent use of water.

The float’s maiden run and first public appearance occurred on Nov. 6 in Duarte, Calif., during the float-building company’s “parade before the parade.” The test run presents an opportunity to check the float for mechanical or structural problems before the real deal on New Years Day, 2005.
The new float features eight separate waterfalls circulating over 1,500 gallons of moving water, 24 high-pressure misting nozzles to recreate the mist of a bamboo forest, and a complex system of hydraulics used to simulate the realistic movement of the pandas.
The 116th Tournament of Roses Parade will mark Rain Bird’s ninth year of participation. The theme of water conservation has been the focal point of each of Rain Bird’s previous float entries.
