North Carolina Full-Service Contractor Wins STIHL Backpack Blower

A backpack blower will come in handy for Tyrone Hopkins, owner of T&B Landscaping, Irrigation & Turf Management in Raleigh, N.C. The company he’s been running for 14 years offers full-service landscaping and maintenance. Hopkins won a STIHL backpack blower in the recent Lawn & Landscape online sweepstakes.
Cleaning up leaves is one service Hopkins has been able to perform lately. Many others have been put on hold due to the drought in the region that seems to keep getting more severe.
“Residential customers weren’t willing to seed their lawns because they couldn’t water them,” he says.
Heavy watering restrictions are in place, and residents are encouraged to buy reused water or reuse their own supply.
Despite the decrease in residential projects, Hopkins and his 13 full-time employees are kept occupied with commercial maintenance contracts.

Fox, who has been in business for 13 years, just started offering landscaping and hardscaping about four years ago. He usually uses whatever hardscaping product is available from his distributor.
One of the biggest challenges Fox faces in his business is finding clients with the right expectations. “Everyone wants everything, but they can’t always afford it,” he says, adding his bid isn’t always the cheapest out there, but they price fairly according to how much the project will cost.
