San Marcos, Texas entered Stage 2 drought restrictions Aug. 18, a response to low flows at the San Marcos springs.
Under recently updated city rules, Stage 2 restrictions can go into effect when the springs drop below 96 cubic-feet-per-second. On Friday, the springs were flowing at 93 cfs, half the flow of this time last year.
The Stage 2 rules allow residents to use sprinklers one day a week between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. or 8 p.m. to midnight. Addresses ending in 0 or 1 can water Monday; 2 or 3 can water Tuesday; 3 or 4 on Wednesday; 5 or 6 on Thursday; and 8 or 9 on Friday.
The rules also require at least 25 percent of each swimming pool be covered, ban the operation of outdoor decorative water features, and ban filling swimming pools. Restaurants can only serve water at customers' request.
