Scotts Announces Plans to Sell Pottery

The industry label will add garden pottery to its assortment of landscape products.

MARYSVILLE, Ohio – The Scotts Co. is adding pottery to its list of industry offerings.

Known throughout the green industry for its lines of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, soil and tools, the Ohio-based manufacturer will add two kinds of pottery to its product list next year.

The pottery, to be marketed under the company's Miracle-Gro brand, will benefit consumers and professionals by completing the plant package.

"We can improve the shopping experience for the consumer in this category while also helping them succeed in growing larger and healthier plants," explained Jim Hagedorn, Scotts chairman and chief executive.

Scotts will market traditional terra cotta pots, as well as pots that mix the natural ceramic with plastic, described company spokesman Jim King.

The company also plans to acquire two regional distributors that serve home centers and mass merchants. So far, Scotts has acquired Miami-based Pam Pottery Inc., and signed a letter of intent to purchase Scan-Pot USA Inc., of Atlanta.
