In an effort to give all members the opportunity to contributions, the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) will continue to collect tsunami relief donations at least through the middle of February, reports SIMA Executive Director Tammy Higham. More than 225,000 people were reportedly killed during and in the aftermath of the earthquake and tidal wave that struck Southeast Asia on Dec. 26, 2004. Previously, SIMA reported that it would be collecting donations through Feb. 1.
“We sent a letter to all our members in early January to let them know about the fundraising effort, but by the time most members received the letter, there were only a couple of weeks left until the deadline,” Higham says. “We’ve decided to collect donations for a little longer to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.”

To date, SIMA has collected just over $3,000 from its members and will forward the donations to the American and Canadian Red Cross organizations. Individuals who would still like to contribute to the fundraising effort should send donations to:

“When a disaster of this magnitude strikes, the thought of how you can help is sometimes overwhelming,” said SIMA President Alan Steiman in the letter to members. “We would like to help by collecting donations from our members and their employees and submitting them to the American Red Cross or, for our Canadian members, the Canadian Red Cross.”
Check should be made payable to the American Red Cross or Canadian Red Cross and should have “tsunami relief” written in the memo portion of the check, to ensure that funds go toward that effort specifically.
