Simplot Acquires Turfcare Supplies

BOISE, Idaho - Simplot Turf & Horticulture, a division of J.R. Simplot Co., announced Aug. 6 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Turfcare Supplies of Braeside, Victoria, Australia.

BOISE, Idaho - Simplot Turf & Horticulture, a division of turfgrass seed and professional fertilizer product provider J.R. Simplot Co., announced Aug. 6 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Turfcare Supplies of Braeside, Victoria, Australia.

Turfcare Supplies, which will be part of Simplot Turf & Horticulture group’s expanding international division headed by Vice President and General Manager Hiromi Yanagisawa, sells and distributes turfgrass seed, chemicals, fertilizers and hardware equipment. Its customer base includes golf courses, municipalities and retail garden outlets.

"As a BEST® distributor, Turfcare has proven to be a valuable business partner for us. We are excited that this acquisition will provide their customers with easier access to our Jacklin® brand seed and APEX® brand fertilizers," said Yanagisawa.

Turfcare Supplies owner Alan Simpson will stay with the company, as will members of the company’s management and sales teams.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS. In other company news, Simplot Turf & Horticulture has released a new Web site for one of its fertilizer brands and named a national fertilizer sales manager overseas.

  • Simplot Launches APEX Web site: The new APEX Web site - www.apexfertilizer.com - includes product information and reference materials, such as conversion tables and area measurement instructions. The site also includes a listing of distributors from whom APEX fertilizers can be purchased. The APEX line of fertilizers feature application-specific formulations that incorporate POLYON® controlled-release technology, which Simplot said enables consistent nutrient delivery for up to 18 months.


  • Simplot Names Sales Manager: Glenn Peterson has been named national fertilizer sales manager for Australia and New Zealand. His office will be located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Prior to joining Simplot, Peterson held several sales positions in the green industry, served as a lecturer in the field of horticulture at the Brisbane Institute of TAFE Groverly Campus, held state and national officer positions for the Australian Institute of Horticulture and served as chairman of the Education Committee of the Queensland Nursery Industry Association.
