Spring Color: Adding Beauty and Value to Your Property

Use this information to pick the best annuals for your clients' properties this growing season.

Spring season provides the optimal opportunity to enhance your landscape. Planting beautiful perennials now will allow them the proper acclimation to the sun prior to summer. Spring is also a great time to plan your maintenance plan for the year. Refreshing your bedding color seasonally will reflect the charming uniqueness of your property.

Spring is traditionally the busiest season for Miramar Wholesale Nurseries and others in the landscape industry. Due to the abundance of rain early in the year, we expect an even busier spring. We have already seen an increased demand in the more vibrant plant varieties.

Some factors to consider when developing your plan are whether or not it adds excitement, elegance, and value to the property. What type of maintenance time do you have available? Finally, and most importantly, does it fit into your budget?

Early planning is the first step toward achieving landscaping goals for any property. In preparation for the optimum planting season, careful consideration of all major factors will help create a precise, cost-effective plan. Equipped with the knowledge of all available options, property managers can make the ideal choices for the particular landscape, leading to a successful enhancement of the property. Some popular choices to achieve alluring color for your garden this spring and summer are:

Begonias: Begonias are indispensable bedding plants that are notable for producing nonstop flowers in bright or shady locations. There are many varieties of begonias producing red, scarlet, pink, rose or white flowers on attractive waxy leaves that may be green or bronze. Most of the begonia varieties produce weather-resistant, compact plants, making them excellent for use in edgings, mass plantings, window boxes and in planters or containers. Bronze-leafed varieties tolerate heat and sun best, yet they prefer rich, moist well-drained soil.

Impatiens: Impatiens is one of the best-known and most popular garden plants for its prolific flowers and ease in growing. It is an evergreen perennial but is often grown as an annual in non-tropical climates. Most varieties form low mounds that are usually 8 to 24 in (20 to 61 cm) in height with about equal spread. The most widely available Impatiens have bright green leaves and come in an enormous number of colors, from nearly blue to deepest red, salmon, orange, pink, white, striped, speckled and bicolor. They are striking when mass planted, but are also effective in containers or as filler. Also, Impatiens will attract hummingbirds, a welcome addition to your property.

Dianthus: This brilliant perennial will create value for your garden for a prolonged season. Dianthus is a tufted plant adorned with spectacular fringed flowers. These flower colors include white, crimson, rose, violet, and soft pink. Telstar Mix features many multi-colored striped varieties. Dianthus will prove to be a very appealing garden border favorite.
