GIANT CATERPILLARS. Giant caterpillars are being observed in many parts of the United States. The common giant caterpillars, which can reach 4 to 5 inches in length, are called mecropia moth, luna moth, polyphenus moth and the hickory horned devil. These giants feed during the night, while spending the day in hiding. No control is recommended since these caterpillars cause little damage to their hosts. However, they can surely scare the homeowner.
