Billbug Injury Should Show
Bluegrass billbug damage should start to become apparent on Kentucky bluegrass lawns. However, in areas where moisture levels have been high through frequent rains, the turfgrass has grown through the early damage. In areas that are drier or if dry conditions become prevalent over the next month, symptoms will appear. Bluegrass billbug damage looks similar to drought damage. A diagnostic method is to pull on the leaves. If the stems break off easily at the crown, and the stem is hollow, with sawdust-like material, billbug is the most likely culprit.
