Looking Ahead (pansies): Given the current temperatures and humidity in the southeastern United States, winter landscaping is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind. However, starting in 4 to 8 weeks the critical time for planting pansies in the southeast will occur. There are over 250 cultivars available and given the various climatic zone it is not to early to plan. For the professional landscaper interested in using pansies see:

Early August is a critical time in turf management. This is the time grubs hatch and begin to develop. Early detection of grub activity will result in more effective control, as it is much easier to control grubs when they are small.
Brown patch remains active on tall fescue lawns throughout the transition zone and southeast. If damage is severe, fall reseeding may be necessary.
