Along the Gulf Coast area a number of winter weeds will be germinating or are actively growing. Some of the active weeds include bedstraw, chickweed, ground ivy, lawn burweed, and white clover to name a few. A number of post-emergent herbicides are effective on these weeds. Powdery mildew continues to be visible on Kentucky bluegrass turf throughout the middle section of the United States. Normally associated with shaded conditions, this disease is present in open areas on Kentucky bluegrass turf. Although this disease causes thinning, it is difficult to tell how bad the damage will be. Kentucky bluegrass can recover from thinning through new shoot development from crowns and rhizomes in the spring. For more information on this disease see:
