Spider populations seem to peak around late August and early September. Spiders are desirable in the landscape since they feed on many insects including pests. The Funnel or Sheet web spiders produce large, flat, sheet-like webs across the turf, or over the branches of shrubs like the yews and junipers. These webs are quite evident when covered with the morning dew. Although there are several insecticides labeled for spider control, this is generally not recommended because spiders help reduce pest populations.
