LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Next July the competition will be friendly, but fierce. No, it's not the Olympics - it's EXPO 2002, sponsored by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI). Over the duration of the show, which is scheduled for July 19-21, attendees will be able to take part in the new Walker Mowers Precision Obstacle Course event that has been added to the 2002 International Lawn, Garden and Power Equipment Expo.
On Friday, participants will have the opportunity to maneuver a Walker mower through an obstacle course. On Saturday morning, operators with the top 50 to 75 qualifying times will try a more challenging course. Then, the top 10 to 15 contestants will advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon, with the winner taking the title of National Champion Walker Operator.
"EXPO exhibitors make sure attendees have fun while they test the latest and greatest product features," emphasized Bill Harley, OPEI president and CEO. "I'm amazed at the exhibitors' creativity. They are great at 'partnering' with show organizers to make EXPO exciting and valuable for their customers."
Other features that will add value for dealers include the first-ever National OPE Dealers Convention, which has been added to the schedule as a preliminary educational session scheduled for July 17-18. This session will consist of three tracks - marketing, technology and human resources - and will feature a motivational speaker and small-group, round-table discussions of key issues.
In addition, the Tech Center, sponsored by the North American Equipment Dealers Association (NAEDA), will give dealers an overview of the high-tech communications tools, including software, bar-code scanning, and Web development on display throughout the show.
On Sat., July 20, the Outdoor Power Equipment & Engine Service Association (OPEESA) will offer technician certification testing. Dealers can bring their technicians for this two-hour test, which is a prerequisite for several of the engine manufacturers' certification tests.
