Recent rain and lower average temperatures have prompted the town of Flower Mound, Texas, to lift its Stage 2 water restrictions, allowing residents to water landscaping on any day of their choice.
A trend of reduced water usage during peak demand periods also contributed to Tuesday’s decision to end the restrictions.
The Stage 2 level, through the town’s ordinance, permitted residents and businesses to water based on what part of town they are located.
Those on the east side of FM 2499 were required to water landscaping on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays. Those on the west side of FM 2499 were asked to water on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The requirements were changed in mid-July as Stage 2 had previously looked to odd- vs. even-numbered addresses to determine water days.
“The Stage 2 water restrictions significantly improved the water pressure of residents during that period,” said town spokesperson Michael Ryan.
The town’s seasonal Stage 1 water awareness restriction, which prohibits automatic lawn and garden watering between the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will remain in effect through Oct. 31.
“We anticipate that with the increased amount of rain that comes in the fall, as well as the lower temperatures, it will allow us to stick with our Stage 1 restrictions for the rest of the season,” Ryan said.
Watering of landscape areas by using a hand-held hose, faucet-filled bucket or drip irrigation is permitted at any time.
