Top DuPont Executive Expected to Retire

The filing comes two weeks after DuPont announced that Ellen Kullman will replace Charles Holliday Jr. as chief executive officer in January.

Chemical manufacturer DuPont is preparing for the retirement next year of its chief operating officer.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, DuPont said it anticipates that Richard Goodmanson will retire as executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2009, when his contract expires.

The filing comes two weeks after DuPont announced that Ellen Kullman will replace Charles Holliday Jr. as chief executive officer in January.

DuPont's filing also notes that its compensation committee has approved a three-year consulting agreement with Goodmanson, effective on his retirement. The agreement calls for Goodmanson to be paid a $200,000 annual retainer, plus $2,000 a day when actively involved in litigation support or other business projects for the company.

A DuPont spokesman declined to comment on the filing.

Goodmanson joined DuPont in 1999, after three years as president and chief executive officer of America West Airlines. Before joining America West, he was senior vice president of operations for Frito-Lay.
