Beyond GPS vehicle tracking, NetworkFleet allows fleet managers to keep up-to-date on vehicle maintenance needs.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – GPS fleet management company Track Your Vehicles announced this week that it has formalized an agreement to distribute Networkfleet, a wireless fleet management system manufactured by San Diego, Calif.-based Networkcar. The new arrangement provides Track Your Vehicles customers access to Networkfleet products and technology. The Networkfleet program merges GPS vehicle-tracking technology with remote vehicle diagnostic services to help fleet managers and mechanics keep up with vehicle maintenance.

“When you take your car to the mechanic, they plug the car into their computer and then the car reports to the computer things such as “The sixth piston is misfiring,” explains Sam Johnson, president of Track Your Vehicles. “GPS fleet tracking technology is now also using the same technology, so when fleet managers log onto the Internet, they can not only see where all of their vehicles are located, but also they can see how all of their vehicles are running. It’s very exciting stuff.”

In accessing their vehicle information online, users will be able to find out when their vehicles are about to break down, when they need oil changes or when tune-ups are necessary. California-based users can even receive Smog Certification using the program.

Wireless fleet management has historically had the tools to tell a company where their vehicles are located. Today’s technology not only provides location and speed reports, but also provides complete diagnostic reports via the Internet and the vehicles main computer.

Johnson says vehicle tracking technology offers companies numerous opportunities to save time and money. “One of the first benefits is that you can increase your billable hours because the vehicle tracking allows you to decrease wasted time. You’ll be able to know if your crews are taking long lunches or leaving jobs early and eliminate those practices,” Johnson tells Lawn & Landscape. “Also, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, when you drive 65 mph vs. 75 mph, you save 15 percent on your fuel costs. As a business owner, you can tell your crews that the company’s going to really abide by posted speed limits and then use the program to track how fast the vehicles are being driven.”

As crews continue to make the rounds to different job sites, Johnson says Networkfleet’s remote vehicle diagnostics will let fleet managers and mechanics stay on top of repairs and maintenance. “You save a lot of money on the diagnostic portion because when you know a car is about to break down you can repair it before the worst happens,” he says, adding that regular preventive maintenance limits the number of hours or days a vehicle spends in the shop for repairs. Moreover, the service also offers free roadside assistance and stolen vehicle recovery.
