FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The truck and transportation equipment industry is still struggling, according to Steve Latin-Kasper, market date and research director, the National Truck Equipment Association.
A number of companies registered increases in sales in November 2001 compared to 2000, Latin-Kasper said, but even more companies registered flat or declining sales. Class 2, 3 and 4 truck sales rose in November 2001, but for all three classes, sales rose less in November than they did in October. Sales of Class 5 – 8 commercial trucks continued declining in November 2001.
Truck production also continued declining in November. Medium-duty truck production declined 33.6 percent, after declining 22.9 percent in October. Heavy-duty truck production declined 32.5 percent after declining 21.5 percent in October.
