When family members on active duty are overseas, those left at home often have to double-up on household chores. Thanks to a group of TruGreen volunteers, keeping their lawns green won’t be one of them.
TruGreen has been volunteering its services through a national program called GreenCare for Troops since 2006. The program, established by the national non-profit organization Project EverGreen, provides free lawn and landscape care for military families whose major breadwinner is serving overseas. The program is intended – in a small way – to help military families who are doing their best to cope as a one-parent or one-income household.
“TruGreen became involved in GreenCare for Troops as a way to show our support for the military men and women serving our country everyday,” said Dennis Sutton, president of TruGreen. “Lawn care is our expertise, and we feel privileged to help relieve some of the pressure for military families by doing what we do best.”
Over the past three years, TruGreen has offered to provide free seasonal fertilization and weed control as well as other lawn care services to families in 13 military communities nationwide to help them maintain and enjoy beautiful healthy lawns. TruGreen branches from Georgia to Washington state are participating in the program. The company works with families near Fort Hood in Texas, McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, as well as other areas with military bases.
“TruGreen as a company is very supportive of this effort, and they’re an important partner for us in our work to help military families,” said Den Gardner, executive director of Project Evergreen. “In fact, TruGreen is a founding contributor of Project Evergreen and has been supportive of all our consumer efforts since our inception four years ago.”
Military families interested in determining if they are eligible for free lawn and landscape care should visit www.projectevergreen.com and click on the GreenCare for Troops logo. To have an application mailed, families should call 877/758-4835.
