U.S. Retail Gasoline Price Rises For Fifth Week

U.S. retail gasoline prices increased for the fifth straight week, increasing a slight 0.1 cents to $1.562 a gallon.

WASHINGTON – U.S. retail gasoline prices increased for the fifth straight week, increasing a slight 0.1 cents to $1.562 a gallon, the Energy Department reported Monday.

The pump price for gasoline is 31 cents a gallon higher from a year ago, based on the weekly survey of 800 service stations by the Department's Energy Information Administration.

Motorists on the West Coast continued to pay the most for gasoline, with prices in the region averaging $1.774 a gallon, down 0.7 cents.

Gulf Coast states had the cheapest fuel, up half a penny to $1.464 a gallon.
