Gain practical experience and knowledge about tree pruning and recycled water for irrigation in two UC Davis Extension workshops this spring.
Practical Pruning: A Workshop for Arborists and Landscapers is a one-day workshop focusing on professional pruning principles and techniques for arborists and landscapers. Instructor Denice Britton, urban forester for the City of Chico, will discuss tree biology as it relates to pruning, with young tree pruning discussed in detail during the morning hours.
The afternoon session will focus on mature tree pruning with field demonstrations and practical discussion. The practices taught in the workshop are based on the International Society for Arboriculture (ISA) ASNI Pruning Standards designed to best preserve the structural integrity, beauty and functionality of trees and shrubs. The course is scheduled for April 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Davis. The enrollment fee is $190 and includes course materials and lunch.
Recycled Water for Turf and Landscape Irrigation will review the benefits and limitations of using municipal recycled water for irrigation of turfgrass as well as landscape plants and will offer remedies to solve potential problems. Instructor Ali Harivandi, regional advisor specializing in turf, soil and water, will discuss: types of recycled waters; recycled water quality parameters evaluation; recycled water and soil chemistry; irrigation considerations; water conservation issues; nutrient benefits; and management practices to cope with low-quality recycled irrigation water. The workshop is scheduled for May 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The enrollment fee is $240 and includes course materials and lunch.
