The University of Georgia reduced water use by nearly 30 percent in the last year after vowing to be a leader in fighting drought.
New data shows the school, located in Athens, has saved 90 million gallons since last fall. The campus convened a task force last October that recommended drastic water-saving measures.
The university replaced toilets, faucets and shower heads with low-flow fixtures, installed more energy efficient air-conditioning and captured rainwater for landscaping.
UGA officials say the campus has saved more than $250,000 through conservation.
