The Industry Task Force II on 2,4-D Research Data has recently updated and improved the content of its Web site, www.24d.org. The site, which focuses on the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), is now easier to navigate and includes a site search form, as well as updated backgrounders and other information. Visitors to the 2,4-D Web site can quickly find information on recent developments, news releases, backgrounders, government reviews, scientific studies, published articles, a master label and sign-up for a 2,4-D newsletter.

“We’ve intentionally kept the 2,4-D Web site very straightforward with a focus on the herbicide’s research data and published regulatory decisions,” says Jack Dutra, executive director of the Industry Task Force II on 2,4-D Research Data. “The improved site makes it easier to quickly find online information about the world’s most widely used and extensively tested herbicide,” Dutra adds.
Dutra tells Lawn & Landscape that visits to www.24d.org increased significantly after Aug. 8 when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its comprehensive assessment of the herbicide under its re-registration program. EPA’s Re-registration Eligibility Decision (RED) document, which is now available on the site, concluded that 2,4-D does not present risks of concern to human health when users follow product instructions.
Dutra added that site traffic has increased 60 percent since the upgrades were made in mid-November. “The majority of people visiting the site are coming during work hours – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” Dutra tells Lawn & Landscape. “This tells us that these are people who are in the industry and they’re looking for answers to questions from their customers, or their researchers or members of the media who are interested in finding out what’s going on with 2,4-D and get accurate information. We've updated the backgrounders, white papers and other information to make this an easy-to-use site overall.”
2,4-D actually celebrated its 60th anniversary over the weekend, originally coming to market on Dec. 11, 1945. While the Web site works hard to educate industry professionals and homeowners on the history and proper use of 2,4-D, Dutra says the 2,4-D hotline, 800/345-5109, and information e-mail address, info@24d.org, also are popular resources.
