The principal of Dirtworks, PC, will help the ASLA-NY celebrate Landscape Architecture Month with a presentation on "Collaboration in the Garden: Creating Restorative Environments."

Nemetschek North America announced that VectorWorks Landmark user David Kamp, ASLA, LF, principal of Dirtworks, PC, will help the ASLA-NY celebrate Landscape Architecture Month with a presentation on "Collaboration in the Garden: Creating Restorative Environments." The event will be held at the Arsenal, Central Park, 5th Avenue at 64th Street, New York, N.Y., on April 16.

This presentation will outline the collaborative approach used to incorporate nature, healing, and design in the development of The Elizabeth and Nona Evans Restorative Garden in the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The Restorative Garden, winner of the 2006 National and New York Chapter of ASLA Honor Award, was created to accommodate the full range of the human condition. It will also explore the renovation and expansion of a treasured Library Reading Garden into an exemplary setting that expresses the restorative powers of nature.

Kamp also recently co-convened the first Meristem Forum, "Restorative Commons for Community Health," which was held on March 30, 2007, at The New York Academy of Medicine. Renowned neurologist Oliver Sacks, M.D., of New York University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, was the keynote speaker. The Meristem Forum strives to promote environmental awareness and build civic relationships conducive to individual and community health. It is comprised of leaders from diverse professions who demonstrate a commitment to individual health and the collective health of communities. Meristem, a not-for-profit organization based in New York City, promotes nature's role in the improvement of human health and well-being by developing restorative gardens in healthcare environments.
