Veranda O fungicide from OHP is now registered for use in California.
Veranda O is effective on botrytis and rhizoctonia, and many other diseases such as alternaria, anthracnose and powdery mildew. It contains the active ingredient Polyoxin D, a natural antibiotic and fermentation product of a soil bacterium.
The product has virtually no toxicity to land mammals, insects or birds, and degrades rapidly – within two to three days – in the environment, according to Jeff Dobbs, OHP, Inc. director of technical services.
A water-dispersible granule (WDG), Veranda O may be sprayed or drenched and is designated as a biochemical fungicide by the United States EPA Bio-Pesticide Division.
Veranda O carries a four-hour Restricted Entry Interval (REI) and a Caution signal word.
Growers should use Veranda O as part of a resistance management strategy that includes rotation with other fungicides with different modes of action.
