The annual golf tournament raised $70,000 for Fisher House, a private-public partnership that providies “comfort homes” on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers.

Juan Carlos Vila, CEO of Vila & Son Landscaping Corp., one of the nation's largest, privately owned Hispanic companies in the country, presented a check for $70,000 to retired U.S. Army Colonel and Fisher House Miami champion Lettie Bien after his company’s annual golf invitational held at Doral Golf & Resort.

It's the second year in a row that the Miami, Fla. firm organized the tournament to raise funds for Fisher House, a private-public partnership supporting the country’s military families by providing “comfort homes” build on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to their loved ones during hospital stays at little to no cost.

Last year, Vila & Son raised $55,000 for the foundation and pledged to continue their support until the $2 million needed for construction to begin are raised.

“During these challenging economic times, more than ever, it is essential not to lose focus on the importance of family and of helping one another and the Fisher House displays those values,” says Vila. “Organizations must be careful with their expenditures but we cannot look the other way when charitable organizations need our help; it is our duty.”
