LINCOLN, Neb. - The National Arbor Day Foundation is offering the general public the chance to name a national tree for the United States. Voting for the national tree runs through April 26, 2001 - the day before Arbor Day - on the foundation’s web site at www.arborday.org.
Voters may write in votes on the Arbor Day site or choose from the following list of the 21 state trees:
- Baldcypress
- Birch
- Buckeye
- Cottonwood (Poplar)
- Dogwood
- Douglasfir
- Elm
- Hemlock
- Holly
- Kukui
- Magnolia
- Maple
- Oak
- Palm
- Paloverde
- Pecan (Hickory)
- Pine
- Redbud
- Redwood
- Spruce
- Tuliptree
The National Arbor Day Foundation will announce the winner as America’s National Tree on National Arbor Day April 27.
