More than 175 members, family members, and clients attended the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals (WALP) 2000 Landscape Awards banquet Nov. 17, 2000.

EVERETT, Wash. - More than 175 members, family members, and clients attended the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals (WALP) 2000 Landscape Awards banquet Nov. 17, 2000, at the Marine View Conference Center in Everett, Wash.

The annual awards event recognizes the high quality work being accomplished by landscape professionals throughout Washington. Association member awards were also presented, including the announcement of Chris Haase, Haase Landscape Inc., Spokane, being the 2000 WALP Member of the Year. Rick Longnecker, J & I Power Equipment, Olympia, was honored as the 2000 WALP Associate Member of the Year.

WALP President Jeff Ricks acknowledged that the two award recipients stood out for the positive influence they provided for the association. Chris Haase was instrumental in co-pioneering a Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) testing site in Spokane and has served as a chapter officer. He is also involved in WALP’s long range planning.

Rick Longnecker has served in various roles to benefit WALP. He has been active in the WALP Landscape Trade Show and Field Day held annually in October and served as a chapter officer and on the state board.

Keeping with WALP tradition, judges and committee members spent two full days traveling throughout Washington and one site in Idaho to personally view every project in the annual Landscape Awards Program. Three judges were selected who collectively offer professional experience and background in horticulture, design, construction and maintenance of landscapes. The judges, all residing in the Puget Sound region, were Susan Hanley, Hanley Resources Consulting; Martin Bower, Marty’s Landscapes; and Cory Brown, Wileywood Nurseries Inc.
