Water Garden Advice on the Radio

A TetraPond water garden expert educates listeners on WORS Radio Network’s 'Garden Hotline with Ralph Snodsmith.'

A water garden expert shared insights and advice on a national radio network last week. The TetraPond professional, Curt Nuenighoff, was featured on the nationally syndicated call-in radio show, “The Garden Hotline with Ralph Snodsmith,” on the WOR Radio Network.

Nuenighoff was invited to appear on the WOR show after a recent meeting with Snodsmith.

“Mr. Snodsmith is an avid pond keeper and uses a number of TetraPond products,” explained Nuenighoff, pond product manager, TetraPond, Blacksburg, Va. “He met with me last year at a Nursery Show in Pennsylvania and asked me to join him on his Garden Hotline program.”

The radio program, recorded live on April 13 from 8 to 10 a.m., featured Nuenighoff from 9 to 10 a.m. The program was then aired the following week.

While on air, Nuenighoff shared with listeners the ins and outs of water gardening – from using water garden containers on patios to completing ponds with waterfalls, fish and foliage. He described how building a water garden is much simpler than many expect.

Nuenighoff and Snodsmith also spent some air time discussing the challenges associated with establishing a water garden at this time of year. The pair presented specific solutions for maintaining a well-balanced ecosystem.

This included information about how to:

  • Keep fish healthy and prevent diseases – especially during spring, which is a stressful time for fish because they are coming out of dormancy.
  • Clean a garden pond effectively each spring without harming fish, plants or the pond liner.
  • Understand the delicate chemical and biological balance between plants and fish, and how to minimize algae.
  • Nuenighoff said the radio appearance was a positive experience, noting the importance of spreading the word about effective water gardening practices.

“This is an excellent opportunity to connect with water gardeners and future water gardeners,” Nuenighoff shared. “We welcome the opportunity to share with people the joys of pond keeping and providing them useful advice on how to have a more enjoyable and successful water garden experience.”
