The core 4

Matt Cline, who co-owns Kansas City, KS-based Teacher’s Landscaping and Irrigation, LLC with his brother Les, believes that there are four core principles to water management. He educates all of his customers on these principles and was also willing to break them down for Water Works. Cline says that focusing on the “Core 4” will help maximize the water savings for your own clients.

1. Delivery System. A tuned-up delivery system is the foundation of an effective water management plan. Integrate water saving components to maximize efficiency.

2. Scheduling. Know the precipitation rates of sprinkler heads to help dial in appropriate run times to meet the plants’ water requirements. Adjust the irrigation frequency as the seasons change.

3. Soil. Know the soil type your plants live in. Along with weather, specific soil types will determine the duration of sprinkler run times and frequency of the days for watering.

4. Management / Monitoring. Be intentional with scheduling monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly system checks and adjustments. Catch a small issue before it becomes a costly problem.
