Weed Man helps military family

Lawn care expert Brandon Burns is getting his company, Weed Man, involved in GreenCare for Troops, a nationwide outreach program that connects local green industry professionals with men and women serving our country in the armed forces away from home.

GreenCare for Troops is part of Project EverGreen, a program created to reach out to the community and promote the positive effects of well-maintained green spaces. Brandon Burns of Weed Man lawn care plans to participate as part of the company's initiative to truly make the suburbs of Chicago a green area. Burns is currently seeking candidates for the program in which he'll dedicate his services to the families of men and women serving our country in the armed forces away from home.

"Lawn care is often a hardship when the major breadwinner is on active duty away from home," Burns said. "With the GreenCare for Troops program, we have an opportunity to provide our services to these families and make their lives easier."

To get involved in the program, families, or friends of families, can contact Burns to provide nominations. After candidates have been chosen, Weed Man will provide a variety of services to assist them with their lawn care needs including fertilization, weed control, aeration and seeding — all vital services heading into the winter season.

"We haven't found any families to participate in the program, yet, but we're hoping to find some just in time to prepare the lawns for winter," Burns said. "The program is ongoing, so come spring we'll be looking for more families interested in participating.

Burns spent most of his professional career as a golf course superintendent before deciding to follow his entrepreneurial spirit and go into business for himself. He opened Weed Man lawn care serving cities in Lake and Cook counties, providing environmentally friendly fertilization, weed control and pest management services. Weed Man is a franchise company with more than 247 territories throughout the United States.
