If there are two things landscape designers dream about, it’s blank checks and blank slates.
Though their budgets may not have been “unlimited” per se, entrants into this year’s Beautification Awards for the California Landscape Contractor’s Association (CLCA) – San Fernando Valley chapter were encouraged to design and install the highest quality, most creative landscapes they could dream up.
The chapter recognized winners of the 44th Annual Beautification Awards at an event held on June 13, 2003 at the Knollwood Country Club. “[The event] was a smashing success,” expresses Nelson Colvin, San Fernando Valley CLCA Board member. “We had a great turn-out to honor this year’s winners. Thirteen contractors were recognized for their excellence in craftsmanship, installation and landscape management.”
Contractors entered 62 projects into this year’s competition, which was judged by two past presidents of CLCA chapters as well as a local horticulturist.
“All of the winners incorporated the latest in landscaping techniques,” Colvin notes. “Every year we find that the designs get brighter and more creative.”
Entrants must be members of CLCA’s San Fernando Valley chapter to participate in the competition and contractors can submit entries at the beginning of May each year. Judging takes place over a three-day period in mid-May followed by an awards presentation in June. Competition winners receive plaques and significant recognition for their achievements.
“Winning a Beautification Award is a prestigious accolade that shows how a landscape contractor stacks up against his or her peers,” Colvin comments. “The competition helps us all strive to do our best work.”
