Former Superintendent Wins Aquascape Fountain
Charles Scheer, formerly an assistant superintendent on a golf course, won a triangle-shaped Aquascape fountain with lights through a recent Lawn & Landscape online sweepstakes. Scheer now operates Prairie Winds Lawn Care, a Colwich, Kan.-based lawn and landscape maintenance company that services a client base of about 80 percent residential and 20 percent commercial sites.
Scheer takes pride in his company’s client retention rate. Of its 40 clients, 20 of them have been Prairie Winds clients for at least 12 years. He usually only loses clients when they move or pass away, he says. He accredits the loyalty to the personal contact he has with each customer. “It helps customers trust what we do,” he says.
Landscape Maintenance Manager Now Owns a Shindaiwa Blower
Mike Richardson, landscape maintenance manager at B. Johnson Turf & Irrigation Co. in Corvallis, Ore., also got lucky in a recent online sweepstakes. He won a Shindaiwa EB802 Professional Backpack Blower.
Richardson, who has been with the company for four years, serves about 60 percent commercial and 40 percent residential clients. The company has 14 clients during the peak season. So far, Richardson hasn’t noticed any unusual slowdown in business despite economic worries.
