Improving turfgrass management through research and education, the WTA represents sod farmers, lawn and landscape professionals, athletic field managers and golf course maintenance personnel in a unique partnership with the University of Wisconsin – Madison. It provides its members with valuable information on environmentally responsible turfgrass management.

Dan has been a board member of the Wisconsin Turfgrass Association for over five years. He is also vice president – professional turf products division for Deer Creek Seed and works closely with the company’s customers. He grew up in a Wisconsin family-owned seed business, where he participated in all aspects of the seed industry—production, marketing, sales, purchasing, inventory control, and customer service.

The WTA is based at the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s O.J. Noer Research & Education Facility. Researchers use the facility to compare different turfgrass varieties, mowing practices, irrigation, equipment and strategies for fertilizer, irrigation and pest management. The university's only single-commodity based laboratory, the facility also tests cultural practices and turfgrass varieties requiring lower inputs of pesticides and fertilizer while still maintaining quality landscapes.  Providing instruction in horticulture, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology, the station is also used to evaluate prairie and ornamental grasses. Homeowners may call the facility at 608/845-2535 to get unbiased, expert answers to turf-related questions.

Headquartered in Ashland, Deer Creek Seed is the only seed company in Wisconsin that still grows and conditions turf, forage and wildlife seed, continually perfecting its seed stewardship. Augmenting these strengths, access to other specialized domestic and international growers enables Deer Creek Seed to meet its customers’ precise requirements.
