Washington, D.C. – Key officials from the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) along with industry experts will participate in a Workshop on the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) Oct. 13 and 14 in Arlington, Va., to offer pesticide registrants practical advice and instruction on improving efficiency of their registration applications based on newly required fees. In addition, Paul Gosselin, Acting Director of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation, will address the workshop on his department’s efforts to streamline California’s registration process.
PRIA became effective on March 23, 2004, establishing service fees and decision review time periods for most pesticide registration actions handled by EPA-OPP. In so doing, PRIA provides funding stability for OPP over a five-year period and improves predictability in the registration process.
Sponsored by a coalition of seven trade associations, this workshop will provide an update on the first six months of progress in implementing PRIA and a unique opportunity to engage in discussion of how and where process changes might help the industry and the agency better accomplish their respective registration responsibilities. A full slate of speakers from industry and EPA with broad expertise in the pesticide registration process will offer practical advice and instruction. Breakout sessions will address applying for waivers of fees; packaging a pesticide registration application for electronic submission; shepherding an inert ingredient application through the EPA review process, and more.
